Planning to travel with your pet? Whether you’re going across the country or abroad, Moore Veterinary Care is USDA-accredited to issue the required health certificate for domestic and international pet travel
A CVI confirms that your pet is healthy and free of contagious diseases, and meets the specific requirements of your destination and airline. Once issued, the certificate is valid for 30 days. However, most airlines require the CVI to be issued within 7–10 days of your departure, so please plan accordingly.
If your trip will extend beyond the 30-day window, you’ll need to obtain a new CVI at your destination to remain compliant with travel regulations.
Please be aware that in cases of disease outbreaks, CVIs may need to be re-issued sooner than 30 days.
What You Need to Do to Get a CVI (Certificate of Veterinary Inspection):
- Research and be aware of any and all requirements by the airline and chosen destination.
Before traveling with your pet, it’s important to research and understand all airline and destination-specific requirements. Each location may have unique rules—including vaccination timelines, quarantine regulations, and documentation needs.
We ask that you review these requirements in advance and notify us of any additional certifications needed for your destination. Some countries, for example, require endorsement by an embassy or USDA in order for your pet to enter legally.
For up-to-date international travel requirements, we recommend visiting the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) website. There, you’ll find necessary forms and country-specific guidelines.
- Schedule your pet’s travel exam 7–10 days prior to your departure.
Your pet will need a full physical exam before a health certificate can be issued. During the visit, we’ll check their overall health, ensure vaccinations are current, and discuss any needed medications or sedatives for a safe trip. Click here to Schedule an Appointment
